Common Questions

How it started

Well we are currently getting started as you read this blurb! With the Board of Directors decided, we are currently finishing up on writing our ByLaws and preparing the necessary documents to apply for our non-profit's approval!

What is the mission

The mission is to save dogs, help prepare them for and connect them with their forever homes. We also work to actively advocate for responsible pet ownership and hope to be able to build a strong community of support for dogs and dog owners revolving around care, training and proper handling.

What is DBS Rescue actively doing?

Currently we actively volunteer at Collin County Animal Services with adoptable dogs. Walking them, socializing them, loving on them and helping dogs to prepare for their forever homes, as well as performing adoption counseling. Adoption counseling allows potential adopters to meet and learn more about the dogs available for adoption, it also gives them a better idea if they are the right home for the dogs.

How is DBS Rescue Funded?

The goal is to rely on donations, partnerships, grants, events and fundraising campaigns to support the rescues efforts. Eventually we would like to offer low-cost clinics and grooming to help generate funds.

Does DBS Rescue adopt dogs out?

Though independently our founders volunteer as adoption counselors at Collin County Animal Services working to connect the right dogs to potential adopters as a whole, we are currently working towards a facility so we can adopt dogs out directly.

How dogs are determined for rescue

Our first focus is for adoptable dogs listed for euthanasia. Secondly dogs that have been passed over, returned, or have been in the shelter for an excessive amount of time and it is beginning to wear on their mental health and show in their temperament.

What is "transformative transitional training" and what does it consist of?

"Transformative transitional training" is the idea of dog training focused on helping shelter dogs or feral dogs adjust or transition to home life. This can include crate training, basic kibble training, and exposure to "adopted life" situations ranging from normal home sounds, and socialization with dogs/ kids, to prolonged periods sitting in office settings or public events.
